LIVE, LAUGH, LEARN
St. Dominic's Children's Home mission is to protect our most vulnerable children. To provide services along a continuum of care, promoting the well-being and holistic development of children and youth in difficult situations in Trinidad & Tobago.
The journey which St. Dominic’s Children’s Home has made, from its foundation in 1871 to the present time, can be traced using the various watershed moments that have marked our nation’s history, and that of the Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena, Etrepagny – the French Congregation that assumed responsibility for its management in 1876.
We, the Sisters of Siena, are a Congregation of women religious of the Order of Preachers, also called Dominicans. We originated in France in 1854. We came to Trinidad in 1868. We follow the Dominican tradition, which blends contemplative living with active apostolic work. We witness joyfully and confidently to the Gospel in the Caribbean, Canada, and France through education, social work, and nursing, pastoral ministry, and in many other ways which are required by the needs of our time.
We invite you to further acquaint yourself with an in-depth history of St. Dominic’s Children’s Home, and its more than 150-year-long progression into the present era, by purchasing a copy of our beautifully illustrated and informative Sesquicentennial Anniversary book. Proceeds of the book contribute towards our mission to achieve our current VISION 2024/2025 initiatives.
General Manager
The only sustainable development is child-centered development; when we take good care of our children we invest in a better future for all. We cannot care for children without caring for families, however, for children need the stability and guidance of a healthy family to thrive. Join with us at St. Dominic's Children's Home in building and providing a continuum of care for children and families in difficult situations - this is a sure investment in a brighter future.
An integrated system of child welfare, ranging from the more intense, therapeutic, out-of-home services to restorative and developmental services and programmes aimed at reintegration into the family system and community.
In 2014, SDCH adopted the S.T.E.P.E.R.S model: A Strength-focused, Trauma-sensitive, Eclectic practice model developed by the General Manager, Sr. Arlene Greenidge through Reflective practice, Study and consultation.
A wholistic Individual Care Plan (ICP) is developed for each child received into care at SDCH detailing the actions and interventions to be taken achieving the stated care and placement goals. The ICP is a living document and, as such, it is renewed every six to nine months.
