Direct Care Unit (DCU)

The Direct Care Services Unit (DCU) executes the development, review, and implementation of children’s Individual Care Plans (ICPs). These plans are the foundation for the child’s growth and development and are considered very pertinent tools.

Behaviour Management is used as a tool to teach discipline. It involves demonstrating how to cooperate and be productive in daily life at home, academic institutions, the workplace and in the community.

The unit is staffed with Residential Childcare Workers II (aka House Parents), Residential Childcare Workers 1 (aka Caregivers), Residential Caseworkers (aka Social Workers) and when necessary external professionals related to disciplines of Residential Childcare such as Clinical Psychologists, Counselling Psychologists and Occupational Therapists.

Family Restoration Interventions

The Family Intervention Programme is a product of the Restoration Unit which has adopted a collaborative and strength’s-based approach along with regular communication and feedback. This programme is an initiative of the Direct Care Services.

Vision

To provide family centered services in a caring environment that honours family experiences, to empower children and their families to heal, grow and thrive together. To ensure a successful transition from residential care to a stable, safe and supportive environment.

Objectives:

  1. To facilitate and support the restoration and reunification of our residents with their families in a safe and healthy manner.
  2. To use a more concentrated therapeutic intervention to strengthen family relationships, communication, enhance parenting skills, develop parental skills training program and to create a nurturing environment for our residents who transition from care.
  3. To promote a growth mind-set and provide essential executive functioning life skills and provide the necessary tools to navigate various aspects of life successfully.
  4. To provide comprehensive aftercare services to teenagers transitioning from residential care to their families.
  5. To coordinate efforts among the therapist, social worker and aftercare officer to ensure these maintain a common goal of family restoration/fostering supportive relationships for the residents.
  6. To have an understanding of the unique individual family needs and adopt a multidisciplinary approach, that includes collaboration, flexibility and networking.
  7. To set a timeline for interventions that can ensure that progress is made, and the goals are achieved within a reasonable time frame. This timeline must be realistic and flexible enough to accommodate any necessary adjustments or modifications.
